Solar Hill Sport Horses is located in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. Turn-out is abundant and even the laziest broodmare or oldest retiree has to walk up a hill for rubs and snacks.All of our horses, including the stallions, live in family groups as nature intended. |
Our goal is to produce equine athletes for amateurs by blending Spanish Arabians with hot, cold and warmblood mares. We specialize in Spanish Arabian outcrosses. We also breed a limited number of half Welsh ponies each year as we strive to produce superior equine athletes in a compact form. There are more than 25 broodmares in the Solar Hill broodmare band. Each was carefully selected for her ability to produce a superior athlete with a winning disposition. The variety of mares allows us to produce horses and ponies capable of meeting a wide variety of needs. Our customers typicallly come from the eventing, dressage and foxhunting worlds. We aim to produce a variety of young equine athletes to meet a wide variety of needs including great all around horses for amateurs. Solar Hill horses are bred to be superior athletes capable of meeting the challenges of a cross country course with ease, performing a dressage test that produces a respectable score, foxhunting first flight, effortlessly completing a stadium jumping course, and completing a hunter pace in record time. Typically, Solar Hill Sport Horses youngsters are not offered for sale until well after weaning, and go on to their new owners as yearlings, two and three years olds. We encourage the foals to stay with their dams for a longer childhood. We enjoy our babies and we especially like seeing them off to a great start in life. This extra time also allows us to get a better idea of what each foal will become. Solar Hill youngsters are exposed to a multitude of things to make them more worldly for instance, our pack of baying hounds, donkeys, cattle, pigs, tractors, tractor trailers, bells and whistles, flags, and more. They grow up in mixed herds of horses so they know how to be horses in a herd. Our babies load, stand for the farrier, come when called and all kinds of other things that good babies do. Solar Hill Sport Horses is committed to the sport horse and sport horse competition which allows horse owners to enjoy and ride their own horses. As competitors ourselves we know the difference, and we can definitely help you obtain a competitive edge as you seek a horse ideally suited to what you want to do with it. |
Our horses are our friends and they are also our family. Our stallions Solaro S and Quillane Orbit have been with us since they were youngsters. CW Soxx was bred and foaled by us. Many of our broodmares were also foaled by us or joined our family when they were fillies. Selling their children can be extremely emotionally difficult. Putting a dollar value on them and haggling over their price takes away from the joy of matching someone to their dream horse or the extreme pleasure of matching one of our "kids" with their soul mate. We try to be fair in setting prices and they are firm unless otherwise noted. We also do try to be flexible whenever possible and are open to payments and non-horse trades (click for list) with reasonable terms if that is what it takes to make dreams comes true. |
