Solar Hill Sport Horses is located in Madison County Virginia between Charlottesville and Warrenton on a total of 158 acres of rolling pasture with just the right amount of woods for shade and wind block. Turn-out is abundant and even the laziest broodmare or oldest retiree has to walk up a hill for rubs and snacks. |
Early in the new milenium we realized that many of our broodmares and stallions were senior citizens. This gave us the opportunity to evaluate our breeding program and goals. As a result our last crop of draft cross foals were born in 2006. We have retained some half draft mares and we anticipate breeding them in the future to create sport horses with great bone, muscle and dispositons. In the spring of 2007 we lost our grand old guy the beloved Straight Spanish Arabian stallion Destinado to complications of cancer. He was 25 and left behind more than 250 sons and daughters around the world. We are blessed to have four exceptional Destinado 2007 sport horse foals. Destinado was a treasured member of our family for 18 years and Willis' best friend. |

Our horses are our friends and they are also our family. Our stallions CW Soxx and Quillane Orbit have been with us since they were youngsters. Many of our broodmares were foaled by us or joined our family when they were fillies. Selling their children can be extremely emotionally difficult. Putting a dollar value on them and haggling over their price takes away from the joy of matching someone to their dream horse or the extreme pleasure of matching one of our "kids" with their soul mate. We try to be fair in setting prices and they are firm unless otherwise noted. We also do try to be flexible whenever possible and are open to payments and non-horse trades with reasonable terms if that is what it takes to make dreams comes true. |
| About Us |
We believe that when one door closes another opens and early in 2008 we welcomed a Brumarba bred Straight Spanish Arabian colt we have named Solaro S. After a two year search Solaro was selected to be the successor of our beloved Destinado and we are pleased that Solaro S calls Solar Hill home. Solaro is named in honor of a much loved mare of ours, Solar Dancer, who passed away in 2005. We have no doubts that Solaro will live up to his namesake. He is sweet and even tempered. Solaro S is by Paula O'Keefe's amazing Straight Spanish stallion *Sasaki and out of Chozen, a lovely Straight Spanish mare of old Brumarba breeding. |
