Destinado was truly the grand old man of Solar Hill. His breeding career spanned two decades and produced hundreds of equine athletes. Among his get are numerous national and international champions in several disciplines. Destinado's dam *Zlabiya was twice World Champion mare at the Salon de Chaval in Paris. The ONLY two time repeat champion in history. His sire *Barich de Washoe is perhaps one of the most beloved and influential Spanish Arabian stallions in history. Destinado was foaled at the Brumarba Arabian Stud in California and then went to stand in Australia at Bremervale Arabian Stud. At the age of 7, through the generosity of our dear friend Bruce Clark, he came to live with us in Virginia and for the next 18 years he was a treasured member of our family and Willis' best friend. At the end of his life Destinado lived in a family group with his favorite mares and many of the Solar Hill youngsters. Young horses brought up by Destinado inevitably got his sweet disposition and unflappable nature. In 2006 we had the sheer delight of watching him bring up his grandson SH Silencio. Although a solid bay Silencio looks very much like his grandfather. He has Destinado's eyes, head, amazing legs that go on forever, and most importantly Destinado's presence and kindness. Our Beloved Destinado passed away in the spring of 2007 from complications of cancer. He was 25 years old. His last four foals, SH Dadiva, SH Pasado de Sol, SH Notorio de Bruce,and SH Encantada were born shortly after his death in 2007; making each of their arrivals a bittersweet miracle. Not a day goes by that we do not think of him as we see him in the faces of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In our 2008 foal crop is a bay pony filly named SH Ruby Slipper Soxx, a Destinado Grandaughter, with Destinado's eyes, carriage and moxy. We love to hear from those of you with Destinado children and grandchildren. Many Destinado foals were foaled right here in Virginia and have gone on to be great competitors and treasured family members all over the world. . |
